Silicon Carbide Flocked Film for MT Ferrule Polishing

Silicon Carbide Flocked Film for MT Ferrule Polishing
Product Introduction

Silicon Carbide Flocked Film for MT Ferrule Geometry Pre-Polishing and Fiber Height Precision Control

Overview

Silicon Carbide (SiC) Flocked Film is a specialized polishing film designed for geometry pre-polishing of MT/MPO/MTP ferrules, where maintaining fiber height uniformity and minimizing edge roll-off are critical. This film features micron-graded silicon carbide abrasives embedded in a flocked microfiber surface, providing controlled material removal, even contact pressure, and repeatable geometry control during early-stage polishing.

Ideal for use in multi-fiber connector production lines where fiber protrusion, end-face flatness, and core edge protection must be managed prior to final polishing.

Key Specifications

  • Abrasive Material: Silicon Carbide (SiC)

  • Pile Layer: Flocked microfiber on flexible PET or cloth backing

  • Backing Thickness: 75μm–150μm (customizable)

  • Film Thickness with Pile: 0.3mm–1.0mm

  • Grit Sizes: 3μm, 5μm, 6μm (standard for pre-polishing)

  • Formats: Ø127mm or Ø130mm discs, sheets, and rolls

  • Adhesive: With or without PSA (Pressure-Sensitive Adhesive)

  • Color: Gray/black (varies by grit size)

Applications

  • MT/MPO/MTP Connector Geometry Pre-Polishing

  • Fiber Height Precision Control Prior to Final Polish

  • Polishing of Positive Core Fibers and Multi-Fiber Arrays

  • Flat Surface Preparation before Diamond or SiO₂ Final Polish

  • Edge Shape Preservation in Mass-Production Fixtures

Why Use Silicon Carbide Flocked Film for Pre-Polishing?

Stable Material Removal – Gentle yet effective SiC cutting ensures predictable ferrule shape control
Fiber Height Management – Maintains even fiber protrusion, preventing undercutting or excessive core dip
Ideal Surface Preparation – Smooths epoxy and ferrule face for diamond or final SiO₂ polishing steps
Minimizes Geometry Errors – Reduces risk of end-face edge rounding or white ring formation
Flexible Yet Firm Contact – Pile structure applies soft, even pressure across multiple fibers

Use with deionized water or polishing lubricant for best performance.

Performance Targets

  • Fiber Height Deviation: 1700-2200nm

  • End-Face Angle Accuracy: Within ±0.1° (for APC)

  • Ferrule Geometry Deviation: Minimized (reduces doming or dip)

  • Surface Ra (Post-SiC Step): ~0.05μm – 0.1μm
